History behind the Trail Trail System:

Our students will one day face levels of academic and job-related competition we can only imagine. If we are to truly say we do what’s best for our kids, then we must equip them with the best education available. Any educational edge we can give them today translates to a competitive advantage upon graduation. The last 10-15 years of scientific study have revealed such an edge – cardiovascular conditioning. Science now shows how and why cardio is such a strong component of student cognition and behavior. The on-going six-year PE study here at Sope confirms these findings, highlighting a strong correlation between student mile times and standardized test scores – especially in the areas of math and science.

The challenge we face at Sope is one of space. Despite having the largest elementary enrollment in Cobb, we have the smallest gym – our children have no more room in the gym than they do in their classrooms. What we do have, however, is an administration grounded in research and what’s best for kids, a highly supportive community, and a vast outdoor area lying in wait. The campus grounds at Sope are the perfect setting for a series of running tracks that would afford all 1200 students the opportunity to bank that all-important turbo boost of brain power prior to the academic day. Inside of a half mile course, there would be three separate oval tracks, allowing the classroom teacher convenient and constant supervision of her class as they run. The chance to use these smaller tracks – which would range between 1/8^th to 1/6^th of a mile – as precursors for recess, and as valuable brain breaks throughout the day would further increase their value. Such an enhancement to the grounds at Sope Creek would set us as the prototype for what we will begin to see as schools are built to realize the academic potential of student physiology.

28th Annual Sope Creek Spring Fever 5K

The 28th annual Sope Creek Spring Fever 5K & 1-mile Family Run is a family friendly event that offers something for everyone: from competitive runners, to casual joggers and walkers, to enthusiastic supporters of Sope Creek Elementary School who are just looking to promote and grow our community and school. The 5K & 1-mile Family Run is the major fundraising event sponsored by the Sope Creek Elementary School Foundation, Inc. (a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization organized in 1997 by parents of Sope Creek Elementary students. Money raised will go towards the completion of  a unique Track & Trail System on our campus to increase the total number of children who can use the track to enhance their physical abilities.

Race Details & Times

Race registration will open at 7am. If you already have a race #, you do not need to check in. If you are picking up a race # or need to register…go to registration table at the front of the school.

5k Starts at 8:00 am

1 Mile Fun Run will Start at 9:00 am. They will start lining up by grade earlier.
